What is an air source heat pump?
An air-to-water heat pump collects thermal energy from the outside air and transfers it into water for your radiators, underfloor heating and hot-water cylinder. It can provide heating even in cold weather.
A heat pump is not simply a boiler replacement. Good performance depends on surveying the whole property, calculating its heat loss and designing the heat pump, radiators, cylinder and controls to work together.

Heat-pump grants of £7,500 or £9,000
Eligible homeowners and private landlords in England and Wales can receive a fixed contribution towards a qualifying heat-pump installation. We manage the application as your MCS installer.
Qualifying off-gas-grid homes
For eligible air-to-water or ground-source heat pumps at off-gas-grid properties replacing an oil or LPG heating system. The uplift is currently available until 31 March 2027.
Other eligible installations
For other qualifying air-to-water or ground-source heat-pump installations that meet the Boiler Upgrade Scheme requirements.

Is my home suitable for a heat pump?
Many Pembrokeshire homes can be suitable, including older and stone properties. The answer comes from a proper survey and room-by-room heat-loss calculation—not the age of the house alone.
Heat loss
We calculate how much heat every room needs on a cold day, so the system can be sized correctly.
Radiators
Some existing radiators may be suitable. Others may need upgrading to deliver enough heat at lower water temperatures.
Hot water
We assess your household's hot-water demand and the space available for a suitable cylinder.
Outside space
The outdoor unit needs a suitable location with good airflow, appropriate clearances and careful consideration of sound.
Insulation
We consider the building fabric and explain any improvements that would materially benefit the proposed design.
Electrical supply
We check the electrical requirements and include any necessary work in the proposed installation.

Your heat-pump survey
A detailed survey normally takes between one and three hours. It covers the property, room-by-room heat loss, radiators, hot water, controls, electrical supply and suitable equipment locations.
If you proceed with the installation, the £375 survey fee is deducted from the installation price.

Air source heat-pump FAQs
Are air source heat pumps suitable for older homes?
They can be. The key factors are the calculated heat loss, radiator output, insulation, available equipment space and the design of the full heating system. An older home is not automatically unsuitable.
Will I need to replace every radiator?
No. Some existing radiators may already provide the output required at the proposed water temperature. A room-by-room calculation identifies which radiators can stay and which, if any, need upgrading.
Can you help with the £9,000 grant?
Yes. Qualifying off-gas-grid properties replacing oil or LPG with an eligible air-to-water or ground-source heat pump may receive £9,000. We manage the Boiler Upgrade Scheme application as the MCS installer. Other eligible installations may receive £7,500.
Does a heat pump provide hot water?
Yes. An air-to-water heat pump can provide space heating and heat the water stored in a suitable hot-water cylinder. The cylinder and controls are included in the system design where required.
Can you service a heat pump you did not install?
Yes. We service and maintain existing air source heat-pump systems, including those installed by companies that are no longer trading.
